There’s plenty of good work to do right here in Durham.
The Durham Summer Service Week is open to rising 9th-12th graders (minimum age 14) interested in serving Durham neighbors in need, while learning more about our community and themselves. Students accepted into the program will spend a work week on a supervised team learning construction skills and doing home improvement projects such as ramp building and increasing home energy efficiency—then complete each day with a meal and fellowship time. Participants will also receive leadership and team-building training and learn about housing, poverty and other issues facing the Durham community.
The 2010 Service week begins on Sunday, June 20th with orientation, safety training and team building activities. Beginning Monday, June 21st, the program will run daily from 8 am until 6 pm through Friday, June 25th, when students complete their week together with an afternoon celebration. Participants are expected to be present during all of the DSSW activities and programming.
Transportation between work sites, meals and adult supervision are provided. Tuition is $250 per person. Limited scholarships are available.
